Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski. Lebron James and Dwyane Wade. Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin. There are many iconic duos in sports, pairs that are essential in building the culture and discourse surrounding their chosen professions. In bowling, you will find this with Brad Miller and Kyle Sherman, known simply as “Brad and Kyle”
I am sure that for many readers, these two are part of the reason you follow the PBA. Their Youtube channel is nearing 150,000 subscribers, making them the most popular independent creators of bowling content. Their tour vlogs amass plenty of views, but their tutorials are their main source of viewership, with one such video eclipsing three million views.
Brad and Kyle are not just influencers however, as on the tour, they are among the most feared opponents on the lanes.
The first match of the 2022 season was very memorable for Brad and Kyle, as they were pitted against each other in the 4 and 5 spots of the Southwest Region ladder for the Players’ Championship. The matchup between the two proved to be one of the most memorable of the season, with their families sitting next to each other and plenty of banter throughout. Kyle won the matchup, but ended up getting defeated by region winner Arturo Quintero.
Kyle’s most recent season saw him achieve plenty of success. The highlight of his 2022 run was at the Cheetah Championship at the World Series of Bowling in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin. After toppling former college teammate and top seed Christian Azcona to win the first place trophy, Kyle ran to give his best friend and Youtube partner Brad a bear hug.
The Cheetah Championship was arguably the most important event of Kyle’s career thus far, as it earned him his first singles title. He had previously won a title at the 2019 Striking Against Breast Cancer Mixed Doubles, with partner Amanda Greene. However, winning a singles title on network television is a different beast, and it is certain that Kyle looks forward to basking in that success again in an upcoming season.
One wrench in Kyle’s plans however is a hip injury he sustained right before the PBA League Championship. Kyle is currently on the road to recovery following two surgeries, but looks to be ready to take on the lanes in time for the season.
The main thing separating Brad and Kyle are the aforementioned titles Kyle has. Brad has consistently placed well in events, however he hasn’t quite gotten it done. One of the more viral performances in Brad’s career was his 2nd place finish at the 2020 Chameleon Championships, where he miraculously took down E.J Tackett and Anthony Simonsen, before meeting his inevitable fate at the hands of bowling’s GOAT in Jason Belmonte.
The highlight of Brad’s 2022 season definitely had to be his run at the USBC Masters. Most people remember the Las Vegas event as being about Norm Duke’s last hoorah and as another step in Anthony Simonsen’s ascension, however it was also an incredible performance for Brad Miller. Brad outscored AJ Johnson in a rolloff to advance to face the eventual winner, but he unfortunately could not outmatch Simonsen in a slugfest on brutal lane conditions.
What makes Brad and Kyle such a fun pairing is the fact that we know they will always be there for each other, recording each others’ exploits. When one qualifies in an event, the other is there to both film and support the other. One of their yearly highlights is the Roth/Holman Doubles tournament, where they consistently place in the top 10. In 2019, the two were the first seed in the event, finishing second to Sean Rash and his best friend, landscaper and part time pro Matt Ogle.
There was no way that in the making of this list, this duo would be separated. Both have immense talent, potential and are coming off successful 2022 seasons. It is going to be exciting to see if either of these two will come home with hardware in 2023, especially considering their roads to their trophies will always be documented for us to see on their channel.
